GLOBAL DIRECTORY · v1 · AUGUST 2026

Financial Capital Group

A working directory of the firms that manage, advise on, and research the world's capital — Charles Schwab, BlackRock, Bloomberg, Betterment and the wider wealth and asset-management bench — as algorithms take over portfolio rebalancing, risk scoring, and the first draft of equity research. This is a first pass, built to be appended, not a finished census.

NEW · THE REPRICING

A $100-a-month AI tax feature did to wealth-management stocks in a day what a decade of robo-advisors couldn't.

Robo-advisors have automated rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting, and basic portfolio construction for over a decade without seriously denting full-service wealth management — clients kept paying for the relationship, not just the allocation. That assumption cracked on February 10, 2026, when fintech custodian Altruist launched Hazel, an AI tool that reads a client's 1040s, pay stubs, and account statements and produces a personalised tax strategy "within minutes." Investors reacted as if the advisory relationship itself were suddenly commoditised: Raymond James fell 8.8% — its worst session since March 2020 — Charles Schwab dropped 7.4%, and LPL Financial lost 8.3%, wiping out more than $20 billion in wealth-management market capitalisation in a single day. The move followed selloffs the same week in legal, accounting, and insurance-brokerage stocks after separate AI product launches — the market pricing in a broad repricing of white-collar advisory work, not an isolated event.

The structural pressure behind the panic is real even if the one-day reaction was overdone: McKinsey's January 2026 report projects nearly 40% of financial advisors will retire within a decade, a shortfall of roughly 100,000 professionals, just as $22 trillion in assets transfers to Gen X and millennial heirs who expect digital-first, on-demand advice. BCG frames the AI shift as a fork between "disruption" — AI expanding what advisors can do — and full "displacement," where agents handle portfolio construction, tax optimisation and client communication end to end and fees compress structurally. The AI-Native Disruptors tier below tracks the platforms betting on the second path.

This is v1. It covers 6 full-service wealth and brokerage firms, 5 robo-advisors and digital wealth platforms, 5 asset managers and quant funds, 5 research and data providers, 5 portfolio and risk-management platforms, and the AI-native challengers building rebalancing, risk scoring, and research drafting as AI-first products. It does not yet include regional broker-dealers, custody-only platforms, or the growing set of AI equity-research copilots built inside individual banks — the natural next layer once a CSV is appended.
